The Waterford Quilters Guild was founded in the mid-1970s by Anna Holland, a quilt teacher living in Waterford, Virginia. Under the auspices of the Waterford Foundation, she began teaching small groups of women the art of quilting. They met in the Second Street School, a school for African-Americans in the late 1800s. Since the school had no heat other than a small wood stove, they met at each other's homes during the winter months. When the School turned into a field trip re-enactment location, the Guild met in several Waterford locations. It now meets in the social hall of St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Purcellville.

Each year the Guild members create a Raffle Quilt to raise money for quilt-related charitable institutions and educational programs designed to further the art of quilting in our area.
