Community Outreach

Loudoun County Fair
One of our newest community outreach programs is to sponsor a quilting competition at the Loudoun County Fair held annually in July. We award ribbons and a monetary award in 3 divisions: adult (hand quilted), adult (machine quilted), and youth. Our goal is to educate and inspire. See you at the fair!

Bluemont Fair
WQG has participated in the Bluemont Fair every fall for decades. We display our quilts in the Bluemont United Methodist Church. The photos show the annual display that is appreciated by fair goers.

Waterford Quilter's Guild Exhibits
Exhibits in the community- During the year Waterford Quilters Guild members have the opportunity to exhibit their quilts throughout the community. We have had exhibits with Loudoun County Parks and Recreation, government buildings, Franklin Arts center, local libraries, and are currently planning an exhibit of fiber arts for the Bluemont Museum in the summer of 2025.

Education
The WQG has an education committee that, when asked, goes into the schools to present programs and provide hands on activities to acquaint students with an appreciation for quilting as an art form.
Charity Projects
The guild is involved in various charity projects every year. Every year new and different charities and projects are chosen. In the past we have joined with “Station Stitchers” to make quilts for homeless shelters, hospitals, and care homes. We have made walker bags and dignity scarves for senior living residents, stuffed animals for hospitals, placemats for shut-ins and home delivery, and quilts for veterans.

Waterford Fair
WQG has exhibited our raffle quilt at the Waterford Fair since 1979. “The Waterford Fair is the mid-Atlantic's quintessential fall festival with demonstrations of fine heritage & contemporary craft artisans, living historians, and entertainment for all ages.” It is the perfect venue for quilters to share the history of our art form.

Quilts and Quisine
Quilts and Quisine is a program by which members views heirloom quilts in various collections in our region. We are instrumental in contributing to the preservation of quilts and the local history of our past.
